Be Safe Online

Mad Ads

When you are online, you should always be prepared for bad guys, that I like to call, "Advertisers". These evils little gadgets can really mess up your computer, not to mention your life. Those ads, the ones that are on almost every very popular website, can get you to tell them your information. So, for instance, let's say you go to lissaexplains.com. Sure, the site is amazing and I love it... but, there are so many ads! It's not Lissa's fault, but they help make money for the site owner, so she had to get them. But imagine, you get an ad that says "You have been chosen to receive a free I-pod Nano." You want that I-pod, right?! Well, DON'T CLICK ANYTHING. Oops, you click it anyway. Now, you probably see something about giving out your Zip-code. Sure, enter it. Then you get... phone number, cell, address, email, name, last name...!!!! Are you gonna fill this out? Well, you want that I-Pod, don't you? Well give it up. This will not only probably give out viruses or other dangerous computer widgets, but it could wreck you life. Hello, may I say, "stalkers"? So there you have it, DON'T CLICK ON ADS. They are bad and harmful things that really get on my nerves. Trust me, just stay away from them.

Personal Info

So, you get the whole safety thing. These are the most important tips on being safe:

***Never give out your phone number, cell number, address ,Zip code, last name, or any other important info about you and your family. It's sometimes OK to say your first name and email, but be careful. The internet world is very scary out there. Oh, and don't worry! My site isn't dangerous, but others are. So watch out.

***Always be careful and clean out your computer regularly. You can buy a great computer scanner at a store, such as Best Buy, or you can download a free scanner online. These computer cleaners will make sure that you didn't get a virus and will warn you if you are close to getting one. They are a must! My friend didn't have one, and she got a virus the second hour that she just started playing!

***Clean out your cookies and other private info to be safe from hackers.

For Mozilla users (like me!):
Click on Tools, then Clear Private data. Then fill out all of the little boxes as many as you like and want to keep safe.

For Internet Explorer users:
Click on Tools and then on Internet Options. Then click on Delete under Browsing History. You can then delete all of the private data you want gone.

Never...

***Get too personal with people you meet online. It's ok to chat about some stuff, but a girl who says she is 12 years old can actually be some old hobo. So don't act too friendly.

***Agree to meet someone who you met online. You never know who they are. Even people who gave you their pictures might have just gotten a random picture on Google. So don't ever ever agree to meet someone who you met online.

***Send anything to the person you met online. No pictures and definitely no gifts!

***Give out your password. Even if you have a website staff, don't give out your password. Not to your best friend, not to anyone you met online, nothing! Do you understand? DON'T GIVE OUT YOUR PASSWORD.
