Middle School Guide

By Megan

Hi there people. If you are reading this, either school is starting soon, or you just want to know ahead of time about what to do when starting middle school. Well, have no fear, because I started school like a week ago, and let me tell you it is AWESOME!!!!! Of course that’s just me, you might hate it, sorry if you do. Now I will finish typing the rest of this guide for you guys.

Getting Prepared

If you are like me, you didn’t get any papers, on what you need to get, when school starts, or what your schedule is. What you should do is get the basics like: 5 notebooks, a packet of wood pencils, a packet of mechanical pencils, a 12 inch ruler, 2 packs of binder paper, a pencil case, erasers, a sharpener, a 3 ring binder, dividers, and 5 folders. I know that it is a lot, but we aren’t still in elementary school. We are going into the 6th grade, and that means that we need more things. If you see any other things you think you might need, then get them. On the first day of school, you will probably get a list of supplies from your teachers.

The Night Before

The night before, you are probably very excited and nervous at the same time. I know I was. What you should do is set up your bag, make your lunch or get your lunch money, make sure you have your outfit picked out, and your alarm is set. If you can’t sleep because you are so excited, then get a really good book and start reading. Or, you could just stay up for a while, and watch TV like I do. You should really remember that you will need energy for all the walking you will have to do from class to class and in P.E.

The First Day

It'’s finally here. Your alarm went off, you hopped out of bed excited for school. Today is just like any other school day. You get up, you eat breakfast, you brush your teeth, you change your clothes, brush your hair, etc. Pretty soon you will have to go. Make sure you have everything, and that you look your best. Kiss your mom/dad goodbye and walk into school.

Finding Your Way

On the first day, you might not know where anything is. With the time you have left before homeroom, try and explore the school as much as you can. Your number one priority is to find your homeroom. From there, your teacher will give you a schedule, and give you a quick tour of school. You have 3 minutes to get from class to class. First there will be a bell signaling the end of class, and then you leave and walk to your next class. The next bell rings and that signals the beginning of class. Keep your schedule inside your binder or tape it in and you will always know what class to go to next.

Homework

Now, in my school on the first few days, they don’t give you that much work to do. In other schools they might give you a certain amount. Remember this is a new grade and a new school. You might not be used to the change of things there. One of them is more homework. If you can’t do your homework for some reason try giving your teacher explaining why you couldn’t get it in on time. If your reason was something like “there was a SpongeBob marathon on” then you will probably get detention. If your reason is something like “One of my relatives passed away and my family had to mourn the poor loss of that person” you might get an extension. Another reason could be “I was throwing up all day, and didn’t know I had to go to school” you would get an extension. But seriously, SpongeBob is all repeats. You need to do your work. Teachers don’t just assign it, because they feel like it. They assign it because it shows that you understand the day’s lesson. Or it shows that you need some help with that subject.

Lockers

This year you might be assigned a locker. This will be your second home, since you don’t have any desks. In your locker you should get a locker organizer, for things like your money, keys, and a mirror. You can also find some nice locker pictures. They might be of your favorite celebrities or maybe some pretty cute animals. You can also put notebooks and textbooks you don’t need for the night in your locker, to loosen the load of what you need to bring home. Make sure that in your locker, you don’t keep more than $5 in cash. Usually school lunches are about a dollar or something. They are never over five dollars though.

Electives

Electives are classes that aren’t like the rest. What I mean by this is, that in electives you don’t learn math or anything like that. One elective is band. Another is computers. There is dance, language, and many more. I am taking band, since in my school I get to go to Great America. Not just for that though. I also played the flute for 2 years, so it’ll be pretty easy for me. In some schools, you get to choose the elective you want. Anne and I go to the same school. But only I got to pick my elective because her elective was already picked for her. She got dance. So for your elective, make sure you like and want to do.

Now that you have read my guide to school. You shouldn’t be worried about it anymore. Just remember to pack the night before. Go to sleep get dressed and so on. You won’t die there. In fact it is pretty fun once you get the hang of it. Now I never want to miss a day of school! So just remember that you’ll hang in there. Bye *waves*
